Faculty

Prof. Vimlesh Pant worked on diverse research areas ranging from marine and Antarctic aerosols (during PhD at IITM Pune/University of Pune), atmospheric and oceanic observations (after PhD at INCOIS, Hyderabad and ARIES, Nainital), and ocean modelling (at INCOIS, Hyderabad). He is currently working on air-sea interaction using coupled atmosphere-ocean models, ocean circulation and coastal ocean processes using regional ocean models, ocean biogeochemistry, tropical cyclones and their impact on the upper-ocean, and sea-ice variability in polar regions (Arctic and Antarctic regions). His recent interests are in the areas of ocean eddies, storm surge modelling, and application of AI/ML methods in atmospheric and oceanic sciences. He is active in teaching (UG and PG courses), research, supervising PhD and MTech students, and funded sponsored projects. He led research cruises in the Indian Ocean. He was a member of 24th Indian scientific expedition to Antarctica (Summer, 2004-05). He received INSA medal for young scientist in 2014.
