Krishna AchutaRao is Professor and Head of the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in New Delhi, India. Prior to that he worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California.
His research has focused on using climate models to understand how earth’s climate is affected by natural as well as anthropogenic factors and how it will impact natural and human systems. His current interests include attribution of extreme weather events, changing risk of extreme events under a warming climate and adaptation to climate change.
Krishna has been associated with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) since 2001 and was a lead author on the recently released Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) contribution from Working Group-I as well as the previous report AR5. He has served as a member of the CLIVAR Scientific Steering Group, Research Advisory Panels of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) and National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), as well as on numerous national and international review panels.
