CAS alumnus Prof. Atul Jain honoured with IITD Distinguished Alumni Award for 2024

We are pround to announce that Prof. Atul Jain who did his PhD from CAS in 1988 will be honoured with the Distinguished Alumni Award for 2024. He will be presented with the award at the IIT Delhi Annual Convocation on 10th August 2024.

Prof. Jain is a Professor in the Department of Climate, Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).  Throughout his distinguished career, Prof. Jain excelled as a global leader in comprehensively understanding and quantitatively modeling the bidirectional interactions of human activity with the Earth system. His contributions to Earth system science and its applications, spanning many years, are indisputable. They are pioneers, arguably the pioneers, in building and applying the modeling systems necessary for understanding and predicting the future of our planet. Dr. Jain’s ongoing work aligns precisely with the efforts needed to address the drastic changes humans are causing to our planet, offering hope for successful adaptation and mitigation. Given these accomplishments and his standing as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the American Geophysical Union, it is no surprise that Prof. Jain is known and recognized for his contributions and leadership to national and international assessments of climate change, such as UN IPCC. In 2023, Prof. Jain was named for the third consecutive year to the annual Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researchers list for individuals whose research has been exceptionally influential.

Professor Atul Jain is the author of 225 peer-reviewed publications, including 198 in peer-reviewed in scientific journals. He has also co-edited one book. According to google scholar, Prof. Jain has well over 44,000 citations, with h-index of 78 and i10-index of 181 (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=AiFaZvYAAAAJ&hl=en).
