Dr. Krishna AchutaRao is a Professor at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. Prior to that he worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California.His research has focused on using climate models to understand how earth’s climate is affected by natural as well as anthropogenic factors and how it will impact natural and human systems. His current interests include attribution of extreme weather events, changing risk of extreme events under a warming climate and adaptation to climate change.Prof. Krishna has been associated with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) since 2001 and was a lead author on the recently released Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) contribution from Working Group-I as well as the previous report AR5. Dr. Somnath Baidya Roy is a Professor in the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He was born in Calcutta and grew up mostly in the city and its vicinity. He went to the US to pursue PhD at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey but stayed on for more than 18 years working as a post-doc in the Department of Ecology &amp; Evolutionary Biology/Princeton Environmental Institute at Princeton University, a Research Associate in the Department of Civil &amp; Environmental Engineering at Duke University and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After that he returned home and joined CAS in December 2013. His research areas are modeling land-atmosphere interactions and renewable energy meteorology. Prof. Somnath Baidya Roy

Prof. Vimlesh Pant worked on diverse research areas ranging from marine and Antarctic aerosols (during PhD at IITM Pune/University of Pune), atmospheric and oceanic observations (after PhD at INCOIS, Hyderabad and ARIES, Nainital), and ocean modelling (at INCOIS, Hyderabad). He is currently working on air-sea interaction using coupled atmosphere-ocean models, ocean circulation and coastal ocean processes using regional ocean models, ocean biogeochemistry, tropical cyclones and their impact on the upper-ocean, and sea-ice variability in polar regions (Arctic and Antarctic regions). His recent interests are in the areas of ocean eddies, storm surge modelling, and application of AI/ML methods in atmospheric and oceanic sciences. He is active in teaching (UG and PG courses), research, supervising PhD and MTech students, and funded sponsored projects. He led research cruises in the Indian Ocean. He was a member of 24th Indian scientific expedition to Antarctica (Summer, 2004-05). Prof. Saroj Kanta Mishra is the YES Foundation Chair for Climate Modeling, Principal Investigator of the DST centre of Excellence, and Professor in the centre for atmospheric sciences at IIT Delhi. Before joining IIT Delhi in 2012, Dr. Mishra served at Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, India, University of Colorado at Boulder, and National Centre for Atmospheric Research USA. Prof. Dilip Ganguly is a Professor in the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi, India.Dr. Ganguly received his Bachelors degree in Physics from University of Calcutta in 1999. He then moved to Banaras Hindu University and received a degree in Master of Science in Physics in 2001. He went to Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad, India as a research scholar to complete his PhD in June 2006 (degree was awarded by Gujarat University in Jan 2007). Following his PhD, he remained at PRL as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow until June 2007. Subsequently in July 2007, he joined as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Program at Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, USA and worked as a Visiting Scientist at NOAA Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory, Princeton, NJ, USA. In June 2010, he moved to Richland, WA to work as a Research Scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). Dr. Ganguly returned back to India in September 2012 to work as a Visiting Scientist at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune. In February 2013, he joined IIT Delhi as an Assistant Professor in the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences.Dr. Ganguly’s broad research interest is to investigate the role of aerosols in the climate change mechanism through their influence on the radiative transfer of the atmosphere and cloud microphysical processes. This involves estimation of direct and indirect radiative forcing of aerosols across the globe in terms of contribution from major aerosol species such as black carbons, organics, sulfates etc. The tool that he is currently using is climate modeling. He has expertise in modeling the production, transport, transformation, and removal of atmospheric aerosols in General Circulation Models like AM2, AM3 and CAM5. He extensively uses remote sensing data from satellites as well as in-situ data from measurements across the world to validate the model results. During his graduate studies, he also carried out laboratory measurements of aerosols and participated in many field campaigns. He collaborated with various scientists from NOAA, NASA and elsewhere to develop an original method to infer the composition and concentration of aerosols by combining sun-photometer and Lidar data. This method is very useful for model validation because it provides data that can be used to validate directly model results, rather than derived quantities (e.g. aerosol optical depth). He has a special interest in improving our present understanding regarding the role of aerosols in modulating the Indian summer monsoon system. Dr. Ganguly’s research article on this subject “Climate response of the South Asian monsoon system to anthropogenic aerosols” published in JGR was also highlighted in Nature as the community choice article: "Aerosols Keep Down Monsoon Rain". Dr. Ravi Kumar Kunchala received his Master’s degree (2008) in Meteorology from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. Upon the completion of Master’s, he joined at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune to pursue PhD in November, 2008 and submitted the doctoral thesis entitles on “A study of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) transport over India using observations and modeling techniques” in Atmospheric and Space Sciences at University of Pune in Sep,2014. He then moved to Japan Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology (JAMSATEC), Japan to continue research as a Post-Doctoral Researcher, where he worked in “GRENE-Arctic Climate Change”. Then he further worked as Post-Doctoral Researcher in a Indo-German Project at IITM, Pune and at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia before joining at Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in March, 2018 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Kunchala's broad research interests is to focus on the key issues of Greenhouse Gases transport mechanisms relevant to the Indian subcontinent mainly on the role of Asian monsoons on transport pathways and spatial variabilities of GHG over the Indian subcontinent using ground based measurements, multi-satellite retrieved data sets and as well as global and regional modeling approaches. Dr. Yama Dixit received her BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from Hansraj College, Delhi University and MSc and MPhil degrees in Environmental Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She received a PhD degree from University of Cambridge, UK as a Gates Cambridge Scholar, following which she was an Institute Postdoctoral fellow at IIT Kanpur briefly before joining IFREMER, France as a Marie Curie Postdoctoral fellow (2015-2017) and then was a Research Fellow at the Earth Observatory of Singapore (2018-2021). She joined CAS, IIT Delhi in October 2021.Her broad area of research focusses on proxy reconstructions and paleoclimate dynamics, changes in hydrology, abrupt climate change and impacts on ancient societies. Her research interests aims to understand the patterns and mechanisms of climate change by using the natural climate experiments of the past archived in lake and ocean sediments. In particular, much of her research has focused on understanding Indian monsoon variability, impact of westerlies on Mediterranean climate and the South American Summer monsoon variability and associated Amazon river runoff. I am an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, IIT Delhi. My research primarily focuses on advancing atmospheric modeling through numerical and data-driven frameworks, with particular emphasis on understanding multi-scale interactions in the tropical atmosphere. My work integrates theoretical modeling, numerical experimentation, and observational analysis to explore the energy budget and nonlinear scale interactions across phenomena such as intraseasonal oscillations, the Indian summer monsoon, ENSO, synoptic systems, and organized convection. During my doctoral and postdoctoral research, I contributed to the development of advanced global modeling frameworks aimed at improving the representation of atmospheric dynamics in Earth System Models. Dr. Sajeev Philip is an Assistant Professor at CAS, IIT-Delhi. Before joining CAS, he was an associate scientist, visiting at the NASA Academic Mission Services by Universities Space Research Association, NASA Ames Research Center (2019-2021). Sajeev's research interests are broadly related to understanding Earth's climate and global surface air quality, by estimating global greenhouse gas fluxes (carbon cycle and greenhouse gases science), and by investigating the public health impacts attributable to ambient fine particulate matter (aerosols) and trace gas exposure (global surface air quality research). Dr. Samiran Mandal is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi in India. Before joining the Centre, Samiran was associated with the Ocean Engineering Laboratory as an Institute Post Doctoral Fellow at IIT Bombay in India. Samiran’s broad research interest lies in exploring the physical and dynamical processes within the upper ocean at multiple spatio-temporal scales (from tidal to interannual and sub-mesoscales to mesoscales) to investigate the coastal and open ocean processes in the Northern Indian Ocean and within the Maritime Continents. Samiran’s research interests particularly include investigating the tides and tidal current hydrodynamics in the Gulfs and coastal ocean, understanding the oceanic processes associated with mesoscale and sub-mesoscale eddies, and the upper ocean response to the tropical cyclones from multiple new-generation observation platforms, specifically the High-Frequency Radars (HFR) and hydrodynamic tidal models along the Indian coast. Prof. Samiran Mandal

Dr. Shahzad Gani joined as an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in February 2023. Shahzad has a PhD in Civil Engineering (2019) and a MS in Environmental Engineering (2016) from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BTech in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute Technology Delhi (2013). Shahzad was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR), University of Helsinki (2020–2023). He is now a Visiting Researcher at INAR, University of Helsinki.Shahzad is passionate about improving air quality and tackling climate change. His research aims at understanding the sources, sinks, and processes that drive atmospheric aerosols. Furthermore, he is interested in studying the interplay between atmospheric aerosols, meteorology, and climate change. Over the past decade of working on research questions related to air quality, he has developed diverse skillsets that include: (i) Designing and executing long-term atmospheric measurements, (ii) Setting up and operating range of air quality instrumentation—low-cost to state-of-the-art, (iii) Complementing field measurements with satellite and modeling datasets, (iv) Interpreting air quality observations in the context of physics, chemistry, and meteorology, (v) Studying aerosol dynamics in extremely polluted environments, (vi) Providing hands-on training related to atmospheric measurement and analysis.Shahzad is also interested in environmental storytelling. He is the creator and host of Atmospheric Tales — a podcast that amplifies stories about air pollution and climate change from around the world. Dr. Saurabh Rathore joined as an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in August 2023. Saurabh Rathore completed his Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Aeronautical Society of India (2013), Master of Technology in Earth System Science from IIT Kharagpur (2015), and PhD from the University of Tasmania, Australia (2021). After the completion of his Ph.D., Saurabh joined LOCEAN, Sorbonne University, Paris (2021-2022), and then he moved to the University of New South Wales, Australia (2022-2023) for his postdoctoral research.Saurabh's Ph.D. was on Investigating the hemispheric asymmetry in global ocean warming and the links between sea surface salinity and Australian precipitation. One of his works was in the top 5% of abstracts selected for the media and public highlights at EGU-2019, Vienna where they showed that sea surface salinity can be used as a skillful predictor for Australian rainfall.Saurabh is passionate about understanding the ocean in changing climate and how these changes in the ocean shape the global and regional climate. Dr. Abhishek Savita is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, since June 2025. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from C.S.J.M. University Kanpur (2011), a Master’s degree in Mathematics from IIT Kharagpur (2013), and also a Master of Technology’s degree in Centre for Ocean, River, Atmosphere and Land Sciences (CORAL) from IIT Kharagpur (2015). He earned his PhD from the University of Tasmania and CSIRO in Australia (2021). After completing his PhD, Dr. Savita undertook a postdoctoral research position at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel, Germany (2021–2024), and subsequently joined as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science (RSMAS), University of Miami, Florida, USA (2024–2025).Dr. Savita is also a contributing author to three chapters (2, 7, and 9) in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). He also contributed to several climate datasets performed and submitted by the Australian modeling community and published in the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF), including the FAFMIP simulations project, which he led.Dr. Abhishek Savita's research focuses on understanding global climate dynamics through advanced numerical modeling and observational analysis. His expertise extends to quantifying ocean heat and salt content variations and their associated uncertainties, analyzing oceanic transport mechanisms, and investigating water-mass transformation processes. His work also encompasses global ocean circulation patterns, inter-basin teleconnections, and air-sea interactions, with particular emphasis on climate variability modes (such as IOD, ENSO, PDO, AMV and NAO) and their impacts on regional phenomena such as the Indian monsoon and extreme precipitation events. Vimal Koul joined as an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in September 2025. Vimal Koul was an Associate Research Scholar at the Cooperative Institute for Modeling the Earth System, Princeton University and NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at Nagpur University (2011), Master's in Atmospheric Science at Pune University and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (2016), and obtained his doctoral degree from the International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and University of Hamburg (2020). Following postdoctoral research at University of Hamburg and Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon (2020-2023), he joined Princeton University and NOAA-GFDL in 2023.Vimal's research employs an interdisciplinary approach at the intersection of climate and marine ecosystem predictions, with a particular focus on near term (1-10 year) climate predictions. His interest lies in developing prediction systems and understanding how long term change and natural variability influence the large scale ocean circulation, and how such open ocean signals impact the shelf-seas. Vimal's work has contributed to advances in decadal climate prediction systems, delivering the first decade-long forecasts of fish stocks in European seas. Dr. Prasanth Prabhakaran is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. His research broadly focuses on cloud physics, aerosol–cloud interactions, and climate change.Prior to joining IIT Delhi, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Florida State University, USA and a research scientist at the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences/NOAA Chemical Sciences Laboratory, Boulder, USA. He also held a visiting faculty/postdoctoral position in the Department of Physics, Michigan Technological University.Dr. Prabhakaran received his Ph.D. in Physics (2018) from the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization, affiliated with the University of Göttingen, Germany. Dr. Atul Jain’s research focuses on understanding and predicting the behavior of Earth's system using advanced computational modeling. He leads a team that has developed a pioneering global model-data integration framework, ISAM, leveraging satellite and ground-based observations to examine the net fluxes of biogeochemical cycles, water, and energy. Dr. Jain's work has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development Award. He has played pivotal roles as a lead and contributing author for major Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessments. In 2021, Reuters listed him as one of the “World’s Top Climate Scientists. With over 250 scientific articles, including seminal contributions in top-tier journals such as Nature and Science, Clarivate Analytics has consistently recognized him as one of the "Most Highly Cited” Researchers. His outstanding contributions led to his election as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the American Geophysical Union (AGU). Dr. Maithili Sharan is a Professor Emeritus in the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He has been with the Centre since its inception.His research interests are Air Pollution Modelling; Atmospheric boundary layer studies; Mathematical and computational methods; Physiological Fluid Dynamics. Major research and developmental activities have been on the development of analytical/numerical models for air pollution and atmospheric boundary layer studies, specifically in low/weak wind conditions. The contributions have been widely recognised nationally and internationally by several awards and honours. These include S S Bhatnagar prize, Meghnad Saha Award and the Fellowship of Indian National Science Academy, Fellowship of National Academy of Sciences (India), Fellowship of Indian National Academy of Engineering and JC Bose National Fellowship. He has also received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore (USA).
